So yeah, I did go see the Superbowl in Jerusalem. All in all, a bizarre experience. A few friends and I went to a bar/restaurant downtown called Black Burger. It's a totally American style place, but it's funny because the name "Black Burger" would just never fly in the States. Anyway we went to Black Burger at like midnight in order to get seats for the game, which started at 1:00 AM Jerusalem time. All but one of my friends ended up ditching about five minutes into the game, which then left the bar filled with about fifty yeshiva boys (all yelling at the TV), my one friend (asleep on his chair), and me (out-yelling the yeshiva boys). It was sort of surreal, arguing (in Hebrish, which is the official language of gap year students) with random boys in kippas about Roethlisberger's ability to perform under pressure while drinking Goldstar and eating Israeli style game food (fried eggplant, chips, salad, etc.). The only real disappointment was that for some reason the commercials didn't air here, so we missed out on that part of the experience. Lucky for me, I really only care about the football, so I wasn't that upset, but I will be YouTube-ing the best commercials later this week after I get some real sleep.
We ended up leaving not long after halftime, but it was a fun first half (for a Packers fan), and a worthwhile experience, except for the getting home at 3:30 and having to volunteer starting at 9:00 this morning.
A side note: I was eating falafel in Tel Aviv earlier tonight and I saw on the ISRAELI NEWS a clip of Christina Aguilera's mistake. Apparently she's become an international screw-up. Let me just say, when I was watching it the first time, I didn't even notice, and really, with a voice like that... who cares if she screws up the words? I'd be more embarrassed if I was Lea Michele and had to perform right before her. Just saying...
Another (completely unrelated) side note: It hailed today. I was sitting in ulpan this afternoon when suddenly balls of ice starting hitting the window. We ran outside to discover that balls of ice were falling quite rapidly from the sky, and they hurt! According to my ulpan teacher, it hails fairly often here, but I still think it's a crazy cool experience to have in Jerusalem. :)
Anyway. I've now gotten about six hours of sleep in the past two days, and I have a full day tomorrow starting at 7:30. Such is life on Aardvark Jerusalem!
Good night!
